A Healthy heart expands the life, by far.
The heart is like the engine to a car but for us it’s the “pump” for the human body; without the engine the car won’t run and without the pump we won’t live. The normal size of the heart is about the size of your fist, maybe a little bigger. It pumps blood continuously through your entire circulatory system. The heart consists of four chambers, 2 on the right and 2 on the left. The right side only pumps high carbon dioxide levels of blood, after all the oxygen was used by the tissues and returns to the heart in the right upper chamber and leaves to the lung from the right lower chamber. From the lungs it than goes to the left side of the heart now, which is a very short distance as opposed to where the left side pumps the blood. The L side of the heart pumps blood to the feet, brain and all tissues in between with high oxygen levels of blood. This is why the L side of the heart does more work than the R side since the blood leaving the L side has a longer distance in distributing oxygen. The heart pumps the blood with high oxygen blood levels to reach all your tissues and cells, going to the feet, brain, and to all other tissues in between returning home again to the right side of the heart (upper chamber) to get sent to the lungs again for more oxygen. This is why the muscle on the L side of the heart is larger than the right, it works harder. Every time your heart beats (the sound we call lub dub) the organ is sending out a cardiac output of blood either to the lungs for more oxygen or to the body tissues through the aorta to give oxygenated blood to your tissues and cells. This is the mechanics of how the heart works in our body. Let’s see what can occur if the heart doesn’t function properly. If your heart is not pumping out a sufficient amount in your cardiac output to either the lungs (from rt. Side) or to the tissues (from the lt. side) than it tries to work harder where it does ok at first but over time weakens. As this weak heart struggles to pump blood the muscle fibers of the heart stretch. Over time, this stretching leaves the heart with larger, weaker chambers. The heart enlarges (cardiomegaly). If this continues to go on this could go into R or L sided heart failure. When this happens, blood that should be pumped out of the heart backs up in the lungs (L sided failure) or in the tissues (R sided failure). The side the failure is on doesn’t allow proper filling of the chambers on that side and back up happens; so if on the L the fluids back up in the lungs or the R the fluids first back up in the veins which can expand to hold extra blood but at some point dump the extra fluids in your tissues (This is edema in feet first due to gravity). This is all due to overloading of the blood not filling up in the chambers of the heart to make a good cardiac output of blood and in time the fluid backs up (bad pumping=backup of blood=fluid overload in the lungs (pulmonary congestion) to fluid staying in the skin (first the lower extremities due to gravity=feet which we call edema working its way up the legs.). This condition in time with no treatment will go into congestive heart failure (CHF) to the other side of the heart if not controlled. CHF can range from mild to severe. There is 670,000 cases are diagnosed with this every year and is the leading cause of hospitalization in people over 65 y/o. Causes of CHF are: heart attack, CAD (coronary artery disease), cardiomyopathy, conditions that overwork the heart like high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity (These diseases can be completely preventable or at least well controlled). There is many of us in this world with knowing how our activity/exercise, eating, and habits could be better for health but do little action if any on our own to change it, which is a large part for certain diseases being so high in America (diabetes, stroke, cardiac diseases=high blood pressure, atherosclerosis, arteriosclerosis to CHF and more). If people were more healthier and more active regarding these diseases alone it would decrease in population creating a positive impact on how our health system with insurance presently (a disaster) with our economy for many could get better. A healthy heart can pump to all parts of the body in a few seconds which is good cardiac output from the organ but when it gets hard for the heart to keep up with its regular routine it first compensates to eventually it decompensates causing ischemia (lack of oxygen to the heart tissue). It’s like any tissue in the body, lack of oxygen=lack of nutrients to the body tissue=STARVATION and with lack of oxygen will come PAIN eventually to death if not treated. Take the heart, if it isn’t getting enough oxygen it can go into angina. That is reversible since it is heart pain due to not enough oxygen to the heart tissue=no damage but if left untreated what will occur is a heart attack=myocardial infarction (MI) and is permanent damage because scarring to the heart tissue takes place. Let’s understand what the heart can develop over time with an unhealthy heart due to bad health habits. If you are eating too much for too long foods high in sodium your vessels will narrow in size. By allowing this you increase the pressure in the vessels that increases your blood pressure called hypertension. If you are also inactive you are at risk of obesity which puts stress on the heart and in time causing high B/P. Constantly be in a high B/P and this could cause the vessel to rupture (at the heart=possible heart attack, at the brain=possible stroke, also called CVA with both on high occurrences in our population of the US.). With bad habits (especially poor diet, inactive, and smoking) you can cause over time atherosclerosis=a blockage in the artery with the resolution surgery (from a cardiac catheterization up your groin or having difficulty in the arm to the heart where an angiogram to an angioplasty with possibly a stent is performed or if the blockage to blockages is so bad a CABG=coronary artery bypass=a 6hr plus operation where diversion of a vein from your leg (donor graft site) around the blockage is done. Smoking can lead to this but it also can cause your vessels to become brittle=arteriosclerosis. Healthy Habits would impact a positive result for all people who have had this diagnosis before but most important be a great PREVENTATIVE measure for people not diagnosed with cardiac disease. There are 4 things you have no control over heredity, age, sex, and race but healthy habits are sure to benefit you by keeping the odds down of you inheriting, help your age factor, and race a lot can be associated with eating cultural habits. Why discipline your kids!
As a parent, you serve many roles. You are the caregiver and the nurturer, and you want to be the friend. From time to time, however, you also have to be the disciplinarian, teaching your children right from wrong and helping guide them toward appropriate behaviors and smart decisions. Understanding why discipline is important for your children will help you implement effective disciplinary techniques that make for happy and well-behaved children turning them out to high probability of an effective grown up in the adult world. Your childhood builds the FOUNDATION of how you will turn out as an adult. Be with no limitations, living 100% politically correct, no rules or regulations, teaching your child everyone wins and no one ever loses expect a lot of disarray for that youth when the reach adulthood. For example be a parent who doesn’t discipline, does everything politically correct raising the child which in this case compared to an adult the child has not earned the years of experience to even think like an adult yet. At the same time the child has not produced anything in having the capability to act like an adult yet that’s why they are called children with the parents their for mentorship or guidance.
Look at what this type of thinking in not disciplining your child either verbally or physically with a single spanking has done to our society (not beating the crap out of the child, for any individual being dramatic thinking I may mean that and I don’t). Our own kind are children and young adults you hurt each other both mentally and physically.
There are many reasons why a parent may not want to discipline a child. Some parents may be reluctant to discipline children because they want to avoid having conflict or because they don’t want to have their child be angry at them. Others may be unable or unwilling to devote time and energy to the task of disciplining children. And still others may have unpleasant memories of being disciplined when they were children, and may want to make things easier on their own kids by relaxing rules and giving them more free rein.
But the fact is, discipline is not about creating conflict with your child or lashing out in anger. Child discipline, when done correctly, is not about trying to control your child but about showing her how to control her own behavior. It is not about punishing a child for doing something wrong but about setting clear parameters and consequences for breaking rules so that she learns how to discipline herself.
A child who has been taught right from wrong and has a solid sense of what is negative and positive behavior will know when she has done something wrong. She will want to behave correctly out of a desire to be a good citizen and a member of her family and society — not because she fears punishment.
What disciplining your children is and can do:
-Teaching Responsibility
Discipline teaches your children to be responsible for their actions. A common form of discipline is teaching children to experience the consequences of their decisions. If you warn your daughter that failing to pick up her toys will result in loss of dessert, for example, and she does not pick up her toys, she will experience the consequences of her decision. When you discipline children using this consequences model, you help them learn how to be responsible for their actions and, thus, control the consequences they experience.
-Instilling Appropriate Behavior
Discipline teaches your children proper behavior in a variety of circumstances. When you discipline your child for poor behavior, he learns about what behavior is acceptable. According to an article in the journal Paediatrics and Child Health, discipline can foster appropriate behavior in children, teaching them how to interact with others, when to postpone pleasure and how to tolerate discomfort. Thus, discipline can help you create better-behaved children who are respectful of others.
-Establishing Self-discipline
Effective disciplinary techniques can minimize your role as the disciplinarian in the future. As your child learns what behaviors, actions and words are acceptable and unacceptable, she will acquire self-discipline skills. After learning of the negative consequences of bad behavior, your child may avoid that behavior in the future to avoid punishment. Thus, parental discipline can foster healthy self-discipline in children, which can improve their behavior.
-Building Confidence
Positive discipline can build your child’s confidence as well. Well-disciplined children often display appropriate behaviors and make smart decisions in difficult situations. Strong decision-making abilities and appropriate behavior can help build your child’s confidence. As the Purdue Extension website explains, one of the goals of discipline is to raise confident and responsible children, so your discipline can positively impact your child’s confidence for the long term.
Why It’s Important to Discipline Children
What many parents who are reluctant to discipline children may not understand is how damaging it can be for a child to lack boundaries. Without discipline, children will be deficient in the following important life skills.
-They will lack self control.
-They will not respect their parents or other authority figures.
-They will not know what is appropriate behavior.
-They will be willful, selfish, and generally unpleasant company.
-They will not have social skills that are important for making friends such as empathy, patience, and knowing how to share.
-They will be more likely to engage in negative behaviors that are harmful and even potentially dangerous for themselves as well as others.
-They will be unhappy.
Traits of Children Who Have Been Disciplined
On the other hand, children who have been given firm but loving guidance have the following traits and abilities:

They have more self control and are more self-sufficient.

They are more responsible and enjoy “being good” and helping others at home, at school and in the world at large.
-
They are more self-confident. They know their opinions and feelings will be heard, and that their parents love them even when they make mistakes.
-
They know that they are accountable for their mistakes or misbehavior, and are more likely to make good choices because they want to, not because they fear punishment.
-
They are pleasant to be around, and are more likely to have an easier time making friends.
Of course, how we discipline is as important as whether or not we discipline. Disciplining a child does not mean yelling or losing one’s temper (though being human, all parents can certainly have those moments when we can get angry or frustrated by a child’s bad behavior).
The key to positive child discipline is keeping your cool (and giving yourself a time out if necessary) so that you can communicate with your child calmly about what is and is not acceptable behavior and how he can make better choices and learn from his mistakes.
I come from a species called humans and through evolution (if you believe in that) we supposedly descended from ape like creatures. It is embarrassing for me to say I come from the same species as those individuals you on TV in Missouri that last Saturday beat up on each other. Memphis police say as many as 125 teenagers were involved in last Saturday’s melee — that left two other people injured. Authorities believe the young thugs were playing a game called “point them out, knock them out.” This knock out game has happened throughout America which started earlier this year. One reason for our young ones acting this way is because of no discipline in being brought up. You need rules, regulations outlined by your parents for structure and organization for the child to know how to behave appropriately to other individuals and know what is right and wrong. Otherwise you have chaos like this and so many other examples. Examples like people walking over each other in Walmart Xmas time, , beating up on complete strangers for fun (at least baboons due it to protect their own species). We on the other hand beat up on each other for fun, or have a fight with our wife than drag her out of an elevator, too many young men robbing old ladies for their money or jewelry after knocking them over with their walker. Than we have the bullying in schools that continues on in college causing very young adults to resort to suicide from bullying still going on in college. Pretty low life if you ask me. I could go on with examples but more important lets look at what discipline actually does for the child in childhood and later as an adult. Ending line with disciplining your children the higher the odds the child will deal with life more effective.
*Prevention of Stroke or Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
There are 2 types of strokes:
1-Hemmoragic-a blood vessel that bursts in the brain causing lack of oxygen to be supplied to the area of the brain (a lobe) where the vessel ruptured. Lack of oxygen to any area of the body tissue=starvation to the tissue; where in this case is the brain=a stroke.
2-Blockages-These blockages caused by the following: blood clots, athero-sclerosis, a common disorder, it happens due to fat, cholesterol, with even tar from smoking, or other substances that build up in the walls of the arteries forming hard structures called plaque and in time creating a blockage in the vessel interfering with blood supply providing oxygen to tissue and if blocked in the brain=high probability of a stroke occurring if not taken care of. “Recommended related to Heart Disease” by Web MD which states that atherosclerosis is the key cause of heart attacks & strokes including it’s the number one killer in the United States. Risk Factors for atherosclerosis include high blood pressure (b/p)=arteriosclerosis, blood level of high bad cholesterol (LDL), blood level of low good cholesterol (HDL), smoking, diabetes, and history of heart attacks in your nuclear family. Definitely a healthy diet, having exercise in your life, and your weight within the therapeutic body mass index level will help prevent, if not treat, atherosclerosis.
The Risk Factors of this disease, especially diet & sedentary lifestyle:
- High Blood Pressure (b/p)-This is also known as the diagnosis hypertension. In understanding how hypertension works let’s use a metaphor: Think of a blood vessel as a long thin balloon and if we stand on it the pressure will increase inside the balloon causing the diameter of the balloon to swell up. If you continue to step on the balloon adding additional pressure this causes it to finally reach it’s total amount of pressure or when you exceed the total level of pressure this results in popping the balloon. Similar concept with high b/p, that’s if the pressure keeps rising in our blood vessels due to blockage or vasoconstriction (which is making the vessels diameter more narrow=increased pressure in the vessels) sooner or later a vessel bursts somewhere in the body due to the b/p passing it’s total level in the amount of pressure that it can handle in the circulatory system which can result into a burst of an artery, like in the brain causing a stroke or in a vessel near the heart causing a myocardial infarction (but this is another topic some other day). Think of food, a human being not eating leads into starvation, well for blood cells lack of oxygen=starvation to the cells. This causes in both situations or cases a lack of nutrition (the tissue is lacking oxygen). With a stroke, not enough oxygen is getting to the brain resulting from either a hemorrhage (loosing too much blood=loosing to many cells=oxygen (food for tissue) or a blockage preventing 02 getting to the area. Though many people have increased b/p due to only 2 things diet leading them to obesity, and lack of exercise due to a sedentary lifestyle, which could be changed and resolve the problem in most cases. Increased b/p can also be due noncompliance- like continuing to smoke, or not following the healthy regimen the M.D. ordered for you as a patient. The overall healthy regimen for a person with hypertension would be a low sodium diet (preventing further vasoconstriction), even low in cholesterol/fat/1800-2000 calories a day (preventing obesity or further weight gain), balancing rest with exercise and the b/p medications taken as prescribed, by their M.D. So for many Americans hypertension can be controlled just by diet with balancing exercise with rest. For others it might take a little more like doing which is what I just mentioned with following your medication regimen as ordered and going to your doctor having your b/p monitored, as your M.D. prescribes. ________________________________________________________________ 2. 2. Smoking-For starters, this unhealthy habit puts you at risk for high blood pressure since it causes vasoconstriction (narrowing) of the vessels in our body due to the nicotine. The answer to this risk factor is simply quit this unhealthy habit. Smoking adds to the plaque building up in the vessels. Centers for Disease state that in 2010 the leading cause of death was heart disease followed by cancer than to chronic respiratory disease and lastly stroke. Over time a healthy diet balanced with exercise daily or every 2 days for 30minutes would help decrease the cardiac disease and stroke. The American Lung Association states that smoking is directly responsible for approximately 90 percent of lung cancer deaths and approximately 80-90 percent of COPD (emphysema and chronic bronchitis) deaths.
- Among adults who have ever smoked, 70% started smoking regularly at age 18 or younger, and 86% at age 21 or younger.3
- Smoking harms nearly every organ in the body, and is a main cause of lung cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema). It is also a cause of coronary heart disease (CAD), stroke and a host of other cancers and diseases.________________________________________________________________Cholesterol is also found in some foods, such as seafood, eggs, meats and dairy products.LDL can cause plaque build-up. Plaque is a thick, hard substance that can clog arteries. Recent studies show that high levels of LDL and triglycerides (blood fats) raise the risk of ischemic stroke. Plaque can also increase risk of a transient ischemic attack (TIA) where stroke symptoms go away within 24 hours. Stroke verses TIA=Nonreversible verses Reversible. Stroke is scarring to the brain where TIA doesn’t. Like Heart Attack verses Angina, Heart Attack is scarring to the heart verses no scarring to the heart with Angina. Both Angina and TIA are just lack of oxygen to the heart and the brain, causing the symptoms due to lack of oxygen=ischemia. Both heart attack and stroke are both a lot worse than just ischemia. They both get to the point where there in no oxygen causing actual permanent damage to the organ since the problem never reversed=scarring to the heart and brain.High cholesterol levels or plaque build-up in the arteries can block normal blood flow to the brain and cause a stroke. High cholesterol may also increase the risk of heart disease and atherosclerosis, which are both risk factors for stroke.Many things can affect the b/p levels & cholesterol levels. Some can be changed and some cannot. We can change 3 things. You can change, anyone can change, it’s up to you in deciding whether to do it or not and being able to discipline yourself with having the power to do it. They are:2-Weight — Being overweight can increase your cholesterol levels.
- These 3 things can prone you to high blood pressure (B/P), a stroke, & cardiac disease and even other diseases. I just had a dear friend who I’ve known almost 35 years that survived coronary artery bypass surgery over 55 y/o, with 5 blockages (2 100% blocked and 3 at least 80% blocked). That was a set up for a silent heart attack if he didn’t have the surgery but he was lucky in getting symptoms of chest pain and fatigue/lethargy due to these blockages. This made him go the doctor. He stopped smoking the day before the surgery. His life had taken a 360 turn and stopped in his daily routine and life schedule. It had begun all over again at almost 60. Without controlling your blood pressure therapeutically or ending your smoking or eating healthy with living healthy habits the heart at first will be able to compensate with living unhealthy habits but over time the heart may find it so hard to function or work that the heart starts to fail in doing its job effectively (it decompensates causing failure if no changes are made). Again let’s take the car, you do maintenance to the vehicle it will operate and last longer, well the exact principle with the human body. Pretty simple isn’t it.
- If you don’t eat a healthy diet, keep your weight in a therapeutic range, properly exercise than expect a high odds they will be leaning more towards a shortening of your life span. You can control your diet, weight and your exercise the right way with a little direction. - 3-Exercise — People who are not active tend to have higher cholesterol levels.
- 1-Diet — Foods high in saturated fat and cholesterol can increase cholesterol levels.

- The second main type of cholesterol is high-density lipoprotein (HDL), often called the “good” cholesterol. High levels of HDL may reduce stroke risk.
- Because cholesterol does not dissolve in the blood on its own, it must be carried to and from cells by particles called lipoproteins. There are two main types of lipoproteins: low-density lipoproteins (LDL)=the bad cholesterol and high-density lipoproteins=the good cholesterol (HDL).
- 3. High Cholesterol-The National Stroke Association states the following about cholesterol: Cholesterol is a soft, waxy fat (lipid) that is made by the body. It is found in the bloodstream and in all of your body’s cells. The body needs cholesterol to form cell membranes, some hormones and vitamin D.
- So let’s take a car for instance, if the transmission is bad and not repaired by a mechanic the engine will be effected and soon fail completely. Now let’s take the lungs, if they are bad and you don’t go to a doctor to help treat the problem the heart will be effected at some point to failure in function and vice versa. If a smoker doesn’t quit it causes COPD=Emphysema (this does take over years) and it will affect the heart in time to not function as effectively with someone who has healthy lungs. Worse, if you don’t quit smoking you increase the risk of getting CAD (coronary artery disease) and add to the problem atherosclerosis if you already have the diagnosis which is caused by fatty materials (lipids), fibrous tissue with tar (from the smoking) causing blockages in the vessels. You also have a risk at lung cancer.

Unfortunately another talented comedian who had to leave us again in less than a month. This is in honor of comedian Joan Rivers who was a unique, talented, creative comedian. She used her mentor to build a foundation of her comedy and over the years further created are own art in comedy that no other comedian had. Where ever Joan is now she is looking down here to her fans only wanting you to smile with her comedy available in stores, or by reading her books and continue watching other comedians in her line of acting and ENJOY LIFE. She wouldn’t want you to be down a long time due to her leaving us temporary. She is now with faces she hasn’t seen in a long time including comedians. So know she is not alone. She has probably already spoke with Robin Williams. My deepest condolences to all her family, friends and fans!

“The definitive research into the potential health benefits of laughter just hasn’t been done yet,” says Robert R. Provine, professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and author of Laughter: A Scientific Investigation.
But while we don’t know for sure that laughter helps people feel better, it certainly isn’t hurting.
Laughter Therapy: What Happens When We Laugh?
We change physiologically when we laugh. We stretch muscles throughout our face and body, our pulse and blood pressure go up, and we breathe faster, sending more oxygen to our tissues.
People who believe in the benefits of laughter say it can be like a mild workout — and may offer some of the same advantages as a workout.
“The effects of laughter and exercise are very similar,” says Wilson. “Combining laughter and movement, like waving your arms, is a great way to boost your heart rate.”
One pioneer in laughter research, William Fry, claimed it took ten minutes on a rowing machine for his heart rate to reach the level it would after just one minute of hearty laughter.
And laughter appears to burn calories, too. Maciej Buchowski, a researcher from Vanderbilt University, conducted a small study in which he measured the amount of calories expended in laughing. It turned out that 10-15 minutes of laughter burned 50 calories.
While the results are intriguing, don’t be too hasty in ditching that treadmill. One piece of chocolate has about 50 calories; at the rate of 50 calories per hour, losing one pound would require about 12 hours of concentrated laughter!
Laughter’s Effects on the Body
In the last few decades, researchers have studied laughter’s effects on the body and turned up some potentially interesting information on how it affects us:

Blood flow. Researchers at the University of Maryland studied the effects on blood vessels when people were shown either comedies or dramas. After the screening, the blood vessels of the group who watched the comedy behaved normally — expanding and contracting easily. But the blood vessels in people who watched the drama tended to tense up, restricting blood flow.

Blood sugar levels. One study of 19 people with diabetes looked at the effects of laughter on blood sugar levels. After eating, the group attended a tedious lecture. What are the risk factors for myocardial infarction?
People who are at risk for the development of coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction include those who fall into any of the categories listed below:
-People with a history of heart disease.
-Males.
-Smokers.
-People with high cholesterol.
-People with high blood pressure.
-Obese people.
-People with diabetes.
-People who suffer stress.
-People who live a sedentary life style.
-Heredity is a powerful factor that contributes to early heart disease. Being male is a risk factor, but the incidence of heart disease in women increases dramatically after menopause.
-The risk factors to concentrate upon are those that can be modified. These include cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, sedentary life style and stress. Cigarette smoking causes many deaths from myocardial infarction and other heart diseases. Smoking contributes to almost half of the heart attacks of women under age 55.
-Stopping smoking can greatly reduce your chances of having a heart attack. Controlling blood pressure can reduce your risk of heart attack. Lowering cholesterol to safe levels through diet and medications can reduce your risk and may even lead to some regression of the plaques already present. How is a heart attack diagnosed?
Chest pain is the most common symptom of a heart attack. The chest pain is usually a burning or pressure sensation beneath the mid or upper breast bone. The pain may radiate into the upper mid back, neck, jaw or arms. The pain may be severe but often is only moderate in severity.
There may be associated shortness of breath or sweating. If patients have had angina previously, the heart attack pain will feel the same as their usual angina only stronger and more prolonged. If you have a pain like this that lasts longer than 15 minutes, it is best to be evaluated immediately.
Calling your medic unit is the fastest and safest way to ask for help. If you have symptoms like this that wax and wane, this is often a warning sign that a heart attack is about to occur and prompt medical attention is needed.
Once you are in an emergency room or a doctor’s office an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) will be obtained. This is often helpful in diagnosing a heart attack. Sometimes, however, the test is normal even when the heart injury is present but usually a great diagnostic tool.
When heart cells die, certain enzymes present in heart cells are released into the bloodstream that serve as a marker of heart injury (troponin I and CPK or CK-MB). These enzymes can be measured by blood tests. The amount of enzyme released into the blood stream also helps assess how much heart damage has occurred.
TREATMENT:
The best way to limit the size of a heart attack is to restore the flow of blood to the heat muscle as fast as possible. There are two basic methods to do this.
Because most heart attacks are caused by clots forming within the coronary artery, dissolving the clot quickly will restore blood flow. Drugs called thrombolytics are quite effective.
The sooner these drugs are given, the quicker the blood flow will be restored. An alternative method involves the use of balloon angioplasty.
This involves taking the heart attack victim promptly to the cardiac cath lab in the hospital.
An angiogram is performed to show the blocked blood vessel leading to the heart attack. Then a balloon catheter is placed across the blockage and flow is restored.
Sometimes a stent (a device that assists in holding the blood vessel open) is placed to create a large channel.
Smaller heart attacks, often those not producing significant abnormalities on the ECG are often treated with bedrest and blood thinners such as heparin as well as drugs to reduce the work the heart does.
These heart attacks are called non-transmural myocardial infarctions. Before discharge, x-ray studies of the heart arteries are often carried out to see if angioplasty or surgery will be necessary.
Following thrombolytic (clot reducing) therapy, angiogram are often performed to outline the coronary anatomy to help determine if additional therapy such as angioplasty or bypass surgery is indicated. This may be done during the initial hospitalization or later as an outpatient procedure.
